Ben Anderson, who died at his home in Shotley early Tuesday morning, was one of the earliest settlers in the Red Lake country having taken up his abode in that district in the late 1890s, more than thirty-five years ago. He had been in poor health for several months and his demise was due to cancer.

He is survived by his widow, Inga Anderson, and several sons and daughters.

Deceased was born in Sweden, August 23rd, 1864 and came to this country when a young man. Before taking a homestead at Shotley he resided in Minneapolis. At the time of his death, his age was 69 years, 6 months and 27 days.

The deceased throughout his lifetime took an active interest in township and county affairs and is one of the most widely known residents of upper Beltrami county.

He was married to Inga Anderson (40) born May 1860 in Sweden and immigrated 1889. They were married in 1891 and had been married 9 years. They had 4 children, all living. Children (born in Minnesota): Ethel (7) born July 1892, Linnea (5) born October 1894, Laura (3) born November 1896, and Della (2) born January 1899. Living with them was Helen Sandberg (18) born September 1881 and listed as a servant.

They had lived in the United States for 17 years 9 months, and in Beltrami County for 2 years 10 months. Children (all born in Minnesota): Ethel V. (12), Adla L [Linnea] (10), Emma L [Laura] (8), Hilma V [Della] (6), and Louis W.A. [Willard] (4).

Also living there was Bengt's brother-in-law - Olaf Anderson (49) born about 1861 in Sweden and immigrated 1902.

1920 Census: Ben Anderson (55) and Inga Anderson (60) were living in Shotley, Beltrami, Minnesota. Children: Laura (23), Willard (18), and Walter (14). Brother-in-law Olaf Anderson (58) lived with them as did Anton Olson (40) who is listed as a servant although in 1940 he is listed as Inga's nephew. A boarder lived with them - Hjelmar Edlund (27) born about 1893 in Iowa.
