Huldah Griffith Shaw Whitinger was the daughter of John Griffith (1787-1845) and Mary Ruby Willey. Her father died in Ross, Butler, Ohio and is buried at Venice Cemetery. Her mother died in Rush County, Indiana. After her father's death in 1845, the family (except her sibling Catherine Griffith Denning) left Ross, Butler, Ohio and relocated to Rush County, Indiana.

Huldah Griffith married Albin Shaw (1810-1847) on 7 March 1833 in Rush County, Indiana. Albin Shaw was the son of Knowles Shaw Sr. (1757-1831) and Sophia Ogg. They had three children together:

Knowles Shaw (1834-1878)
Charles Shaw (1836-1886)
Catherine Shaw (1838-1913)

Huldah Griffith Shaw, a widower with children, married James Francis Whitinger (1808-1904) on 19 January 1854 in Rush County, Indiana. They had two more children together:
