Husband of Mary Ruby Willey (1788-1870). They married on 4 April 1807 in Butler County, Ohio. They had five children together:

i. Elizabeth Griffith Buffington (1808-1874)
ii. Maranda Griffith Shaw (1811-1876)
iii. Catherine Griffith Brann Denning (1813-1907)
iv. Charles Griffith (1815-1849)
v. Huldah Griffith Shaw Whitinger (1817-1892)

After the death of John Griffith, his widow and several children relocated to Rush County, Indiana. Catherine Griffith Brann Denning was the only daughter to remain in Ross, Butler, Ohio. Their son Charles Griffith eventually settled in Jasper County, Illinois.
