Nola Helen (Balke) Lehde, 97, widow of Helmus Daniel Lehde, passed away March 7, 2011 in Gazebo Terrace Convalescent Center.

Born to Karl Christian and Natalie Timme Balke in the Peters Community near Sealy on July 5, 1913, Nola was baptized on October 3, 1925. She married Helmus Daniel Lehde on July 6, 1932 at First Methodist Church in Sealy. They had one daughter, Jeraldyne Louise Lehde. Nola and her husband made their home in Houston, where they were members of Zion Lutheran Church until they retired to live in Brenham. There, they became members of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she became a member of the Ladies Aid. A loving wife and mother, Granny was devoted to her family. She was passionate about her flower garden, especially her roses. She was very fond of cooking and singing church hymns, and she enjoyed her many pet cats.

Funeral services for Nola Helen Lehde are scheduled for 10 a.m., Thursday, March 10, 2011 at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Pastor Phillip Fenton officiating. Interment will take place in Prairie Lea Cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Chapel.

Serving as pallbearers are Paul Mueller, the Rev. Lawrence Bade, Leroy Baron, Christopher Jones, Martin Hunt, and Werner Oeser. Honorary pallbearers are Carolyn Oeser, Janice Martinez, and Jennie Warchesik.

Survivors include granddaughters Christina Weisler Hunt and husband Martin of New York, and Caryn Weisler Jones and husband Chris of Houston; great-grandchildren Julian Daniel Jones of Houston, and Caroline Dixon Hunt of New York, and a sister, Norma Balke Mueller of Brookshire. Preceding her in death was her husband, Helmus Lehde, a daughter, Jeraldyne Lehde Weisler.

Memorials may be made in her name to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church Radio Ministry of Brenham.
