G.P.'Pink' Mitchell was one of seven children born to John M.Mitchell,Sr and Hattie Wilson Mitchell who were married at Potosi, Washington County,Missouri. In 1899 the family, including Pink, two of his brothers and one sister moved to Winkler County, Texas where his father worked as a cowboy for Alex Birchfield. Three other daughters were born after the family moved to the Winkler area. In 1901 his father homesteaded land in Winkler County, Texas and began the P-Ridge ranch on his own. His brand was the HA. The Mitchell family was involved in the establishment of Winkler County

His father died in 1909 and Pink Mitchell became the man of the family and looked after his mother's interest for the rest of her life. He homesteaded land for himself and on July 12, 1911 married Laura Belle Hill. There were six children born to this marriage. Three sons, Alf, Charles and William John 'Bill' Mitchell and two daughters, Pauline Mitchell and Ethyl Faye Mitchell Brumlow. Pauline, who died at 19 months old, was buried on the original homestead ranch.

G.P. and Laura's Quein Sabe ranch holdings grew to include 20 sections of land in Winkler County, as well as additional land in the Wellsfleet, Nebraska area.

G.P. 'Pink' Mitchell developed a herd of registered Anxiety IV hereford cattle and was a past president of the Anxiety IV Hereford Association.He served in Winkler County political offices, helped establish Kermit State Bank and was Bank President for several years. He was a 50 year Mason and was a member of the Sandhills Rodeo Association.
