WILLIAM WEBB

William Webb was born in Yorkshire, England, May 18, 1854 and died at his home at Lucas, Iowa, March 21, 1923 at the age of 68 years, 10 months and 3 days.

His parents came to the United States when he was about 7 years of age, going to Pittsburgh, Penn., where William was taken into the mines at the age of nine years. They later came to Lucas, Iowa, where he grew to young manhood. He was very devoted to his parents and the rest of the family, and in order to better assist in their care he went to Seymour where he was employed in the mines. Being also gifted in music he played the cornet in the Seymour band.

He later returned to Chariton, where in 1903 he met Mrs. Amanda Cook and on March 21, 1904 they were united in marriage. To this union were born four children, three boys and one girl. One son, James died in infancy.

Mr. Webb later returned to Lucas and was employed by the Whitebreast Coal Mining Co. and later the Big Hill Co. and then No. 4. Shortly after the opening of the Iowa Nebraska Coal Co. Mines, he entered their employ and remainded with them until he met with the accident which was the cause of his death.

His father, mother, two brothers, James and John, and sister, Mary have preceded him in death.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife and three children, Herbert, Florence and Wilbur and three stepchildren, Ira Cook, of Rock Island, Neb., Mrs. Emma Patchin and Miss Maude Cook, of Des Moines and a host of friends.

He was a patient, kind and loving husband and father, very devoted to this children and his stepchildren. His every desire was for their good. May he rest in peace until we meet again.
