George Bushey died at his home in Orrtanna Monday noon of last week, aged 83 years, 11 months and 9 days. He is survived by the following children, Oliver Bushey and Mrs. William Sowers of Orrtanna, Mrs. George Martz of Cashtown, Mrs. Curtis Biesecker of Virginia Mills, Mrs. L J Bucher of Gettysburg, Calvin Bushey of Washington, D.C., Abraham Bushey of York, also by the following brothers and sister, Calvin of Kansas, Jacob of Ohio, John F Bushey and Mrs. Sallie Hartman of Arendtsville. The funeral was held on last Wednesday morning at 10:00, interment at Flohr’s church.

The son of Nicholas & Esther (Mickley) Bushey, he married Mary Harriet Mickley and fathered Oliver (b. @1854), Clara Olevia (b. 09/06/56 - married William A. Sowers), Rebecca Ellen (b. 11/20/60 - married George J. Martz), Abraham (b. @1865), Minnie Elmira (b. 07/27/66 - married Larkin J.. Bucher), Anna M. (b. 06/14/68 - married Emory Curtis Biesecker), Luther Henry (b. 02/09/70), and John Calvin (b. @1874). Although he lived most of his life in Adams County, in 1860 he was a successful farmer living with his family in Southampton Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania.
A Civil War veteran, he was drafted in Cumberland County October 16, 1862, mustered into federal service at Camp McClure in Chambersburg November 1 as a private with Co. F, 158th Pennsylvania Infantry (aka "Drafted Militia"), promoted to sergeant, and honorably discharged with his company August 12, 1863.
In 1880-90, he was living with his family in Franklin Township, Adams County. Cause of his death is listed as "apoplexy" with "aortic stenosis" a contributing factor.
