A resident of Greensburg, he died Saturday, Feb. 17, 1996, at North Oaks Medical Center, Hammond. He was 64. Visiting at M.J.R. Friendly Service Funeral Home Inc., Greensburg, 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday. Religious services at Venable AME Church, Greensburg, at 1 p.m. Wednesday, conducted by the Rev. Ranches Hall. Interment in church cemetery. Survived by wife, Emma Jackson Ard, Greensburg; two daughters, Gwendolyn and Joyce Ard, both of Greensburg; five sons, Joseph Ard Jr., Baton Rouge, Fredrick C. Ard, Lavergne, Tenn., Oscar, Jason and Alvin Ard, all of Greensburg; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John E. and Dorothy Ard, Bogalusa, and Leroy and Geraldine Ard, Greensburg; a sister and brother-in-law, Minnie and Walter Hamler, Greensburg; mother-in-law, Claver Holden Jackson; stepfather-in-law, David Jackson, Liberty, Miss.; 10 sisters-in-law, 12 brothers-in-law; 12 grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by parents, Oscar Webb and Maggie McClendon Ard; two sisters, Ernestine Ard Burton and Florence P. Ard; father-in-law, Prince B. Jackson; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Jackson Smith.∼Joseph "Joe" Ard was born May 24, 1931, to the late Oscar Webb and Maggie McClendon Ard. He departed this life on Asturday, February 17, 1996 at North Oaks Medical Center.
In 1967 Joe dedicated his life to Christ. He was a very active and dutiful member of Venable Chapel AME Church until his health began to fall. Still he continued to express his love for Christ everyday.
On August 4, 1960, he was united in holy matrimony to Emma Jackson. To this union seven children were born.
He leaves to cherish his sweet memories: a loving and devoted wife Emma Jackson Ard of Greensburg, La.; two daughters Gwendolyn Ard Atkins and Joyce Marie Ard both of Greensburg; seven son and two daughter-in-laws, Joseph(Denise) Ard of Baton Rouge, Fredrick (Angela) Ard of Murfreboro, Tenn., Oscar D, Jason L. and Alvin L. Ard all of Greensburg. One sister Minne Ard (alter) Hamler. Two brother, John E. (Dorothy) Ard of Bogalusa, La., Leroy(Gerldine) Ard of Greensburg, La. A devoted mother-in-law and step father-in-law, Claver (Davis) Jackson, of Liberty, Miss. 12 grandchildren including 3 he raised from birth, Bridgette, Tyjia and Joseph III. 19 sister and brother-in-laws, 2 uncles, 2 very special cousins that were so dear to him, Walter and Beatrice Brumfield of Kentwood, La. a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nwphews, cousins and friends. He was proceced in death by his parents, 2 sisters and his father-in-law and a sister-in-law.
