Jessie Doyle Layton
Age 85 years, 10 months and five days, a resident of East Prairie, passed away Sunday April 17, 2011 at 10:53 a.m. in the East Prairie Nursing Center.
Born June 12, 1925 in Clarksville, Arkansas to the late Clyde & Roxie Burton Sain, Jessie lived most of her life in East Prairie; she was of the Pentecostal Faith. On April 28, 1945 at Sikeston she married Floyd Layton who preceded her in death on April 25, 1991.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, J.C. & Helen Layton of East Prairie; one daughter, Mary Abernathy of LaCenter, Kentucky; two brothers, J.W. Sain of Aubrey, Mississippi and Harold Sain of Sikeston; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and many friends.
Two brothers, Verlin & Scottie Sain; two sisters, Genevieve Layton & Dorothy Merryman; one granddaughter, Kimberly Irene Abernathy; and her son-in-law, Carl Abernathy preceded Jessie in death.
Friends may call after 6 p.m. Monday at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Shelby Chapel with Bro. Randy Eskew and Bro. Ryan Baker officiating. Burial will follow in the Anniston Cemetery with Shelby Funeral Home of East Prairie in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers will be Ricky Scott, John Smith, Jimmy Abernathy, Jerry Abernathy, Jeff Abernathy and Tyler Scott. Honorary Pallbearer Jordan Smith.
