Georgetta was the daughter of George W. & Mary Jane Messick Conwell. She was born a few months after her father died, in battle, while serving with Co. I, 69th Indiana V.I. in Helena, Arkansas. She was named Georgetta, in his honor, and was known to family and friends as Georgie.

Her mother was left as a widow with many children, but held her family together the best that she could. Some of the children spent short stays in the Indiana Soldiers & Sailors Home at Knightstown. When they were older, Georgetta and her sister, Josephine, were invited to live in the home of their elder brother, David Henry Conwell.

Miss Conwell married Aaron Bell, the son of Nehemiah & Evaline Smith Bell, on December 5, 1888 in Henry County, Indiana. They moved to Delaware County and raised their children, in the city of Muncie. The couple were the parents of Mabel Clare, Howard Elmer, Lavere Jane, Charles Donald, Harry Fred and Ralph A. Bell. Mrs. Bell passed away from the effects of chronic stomach problems.
