Mr. Lawrence Jones Darby, 88, of Gaithersburg, died Thursday, June 4, at the Herman Wilson Health Care Center in Gaithersburg. He was the husband of Arleen C. Darby.

Born Sept. 22, 1898, in Boyds, Mr. Darby was a son of the late Remus R. and Clara Fowler Darby.

Mr. Darby was a retired grocery store owner and had operated a store in Gaithersburg for many years. He was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Gaithersburg.

Surviving besides his wife are one daughter, Nancy Darby Swope of Gaithersburg; one grandson, John Lawrence Hall of Rockville; and one sister, Alice B. Griffith of Poolesville.

Friends may call 3-5 and 7-9 p m Friday, June 5, at the Olin L Molesworth Funeral Home in Damascus. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 6, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Monocacy Cemetery, Beallsville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 119 N. Frederick Ave., Gaithersburg, Md. 20877.
