M.R. Clark Dead at 56
Marshall R. Clark, son of the late William C. and Armanella (Miner) Clark, died at his home at 810 County St., Thursday morning at 1:30 after a year's illness. He was 56 years old.
Mr. Clark was born Dec 1, 1901 in Windsor, Mass. at the home of his maternal grandparents. In 1919 he was graduated from Bennington High School and later attended Springfield College. After some time at a Springfield pharmacy, he with a partner, owned and operated the C & C Express Co. from Springfield to Brookfield, Mass., until 1943, when he and his family moved to Bennington where he had since resided.
Mr. Clark worked at the National Carbon Co. during the war, after which he joined the Ben Mont, where he had since been employed and where he was affliated with Loca 531 Bennington Specialty and Paper Products.
He married Mary C. McCowley of Springfield in 1928 and she died in 1935. To this union two daughters were born; Carolyn Anne Clark of Monson, Mass. and Mrs. Richard (Jane) Jolivette of Bennington. In 1947 he married Josephine S. Elwell of this town, the ceremony being performed by the Rev. W. G. Towart at the First Baptist parsonage.
Surviving besides his wife and daughters, are a brother, Miner C. Clark of East Arlington and two sisters, Carolyn M. Clark and Mrs. Carl (Josephine) Reynolds, both of Bennington; three aunts and several nieces and nephews.
His chief interests, aside from his work, were in his home and family. He had spent much of his spare time enjoying his hobby of fine woodworking. Mr. Clark, a devoted husband and father, was a member of the Bennington First Methodist Church.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 1pm from his home with the Rev. Frank W. Crippin, Methodist pastor, officiating. Friends may call at his home from this evening.
