Billie Benson Brinkerhoff

1919 ~ 2010

Billie Benson Brinkerhoff passed away on February 11, 2010, at the age of 90. She will be remembered most for her faith, her love and devotion to her family, and her continually positive outlook on life.

Billie was born to Richard Claude Benson and Chloe Emmaline Michael Benson in Newtown, MO on July 29, 1919. She attended Christian College and later graduated from the University of Missouri where she met her husband James Marcus Binkerhoff.

Billie and Mark were married June 8, 1941. Billie was baptized a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on August 4, 1946 and was sealed to her husband on April 30, 1948, in the Mesa, AZ Temple. Billie held many positions in the Primary and Relief Society organizations and served a welfare service mission with her husband to Uruguay in 1980-1981.

During WWII she lived in Wilmington, NC, San Bernardino, CA and Portland, OR as her husband served in the military. They settled in Southern California in 1946, where they reared their family. They also spent some time in Florida and Salt Lake City before settling in Provo, UT in 1972.

She is survived by her children Philip Richard (Jan) Brinkerhoff, Arlington, TX, Kristin Cherrington, Orem, UT, Dirk (Lori) Brinkerhoff, Arlington TX, and Heidi (Eric) Shields, Lodi, CA, 23 grandchildren and 33 great grand children.

Billie's husband Mark passed away on June 19, 1988. She greatly looked forward to being with him again. She is also preceded in death by her parents, brother Richard Benson, son Mark Scott Brinkerhoff, an infant daughter Kelly Brinkerhoff, grandson Grant Marcus Shields and son-in-law Owen Cherrington.

The family would like to thank the people from First Choice Home Health & Hospice, and Summerfield Manor for their tender loving care and the many hours they devoted to our beloved mother during the final months of her life.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 15, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the River Ridge Chapel, 1120 East 600 North in Orem, Utah. Family and friends may call Sunday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. February 14th at the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem and Monday morning from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Interment will be held at East Lawn Memorial Hills.
