1925 - 2011

Esther Fannin Flannery, 85, of Ashland, widow of Hartley Flannery, passed away Saturday, April 16, 2011, in St. Mary's Medical Center in Huntington.

Esther was born July 13, 1925, in Elliott County, a daughter of the late Dial and Janie Ison Fannin.

She was a former teacher in the Elliott County School District and a social worker in Ashland. She was a member of South Ashland United Methodist Church, an avid quilter and enjoyed making wall hangings. Esther had a great love for her family. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a caregiver to her husband.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hartley Flannery; and three brothers, Leonard Fannin, Wendell Fannin and Clyde Fannin.

She is survived by three daughters, Teresa (Pete) Wonn III of Ashland, Joan (Tom) Johnston of Russell and Connie (Fred) Crace of Greenfield, Ind., a brother, Hairloyd Fannin of Sandy Hook; two sisters, Pauline Lewis and Evelyn (Curt) Lyons, both of Sandy Hook; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at Lewis & Ferguson Funeral Home in Sandy Hook, by Pastor Lance Campbell. Burial will be in Elliott County Memory Gardens.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood and after 11 a.m. Tuesday at Lewis & Ferguson.

Pallbearers will be Esther's grandsons, Sean Adkins, Todd Adkins, Jason Crace, Jay Wonn, Tobin Wonn and Brad Taylor.
