He was born September 4, 1926 in Cato, Wis., the son of the late George and Anna (Muehlbauer) Meyer. Claude was a 1944 graduate of Reedsville High School and served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. On May 21, 1949 he married the former Verdayne L. Wolf in Manitowoc. Claude worked in the warehouse at Kohler Company from 1955 until retiring in 1991. He was a member of Blessed Trinity Parish in Sheboygan Falls, the Knights of Columbus, Kohler Quarter Century Club, American Legion Post #149 in Sheboygan Falls, Am Vets in Reedsville, and was a longtime past member of the Reedsville Volunteer Fire Dept. Claude enjoyed golf, woodworking, gardening, painting, going for walks, having coffee with his friends, and his dog, Patches. Claude restored two antique vehicles and spent many hours helping his family renovate their homes.
Survivors include his wife, Verdayne; three daughters, Debbie (Larry) Ter Maat of Sheboygan Falls, Pam (Clyde) Beyersdorf of Sheboygan Falls, Lynn (Bill) Erbstoesser of Kohler; one son, Rick (Wendy) Meyer of Sheboygan Falls; six grandchildren, Brian, Scott (Tami) Ter Maat, Jason (Clare) Beyersdorf, Kristin (Marc) De St. Aubin, Paul and Craig Erbstoesser; two great grandchildren, Noelle De St. Aubin, and Brooklyn TerMaat; two sisters, Marian (Jim) Kreger of Naperville, Ill., Rita Pritzl of Reedsville; one brother, Jerome (Laverne) Meyer of Kiel; and a brother-in-law, Bob Valleskey of Kiel.
During Claude's illness he always remained optimistic and was a true inspiration to his family. Claude's family wishes to extend their appreciation to the doctors and staff at the Sheboygan Clinic, the VNA, and the Sheboygan Falls First Responders.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mildred Eichhorst and Olive Vallesky.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Blessed Trinity Parish with the Rev. Robert Lotz, as celebrant. Military Honors will follow the Mass at church.
Friends may call at the Wenig Funeral Home in Sheboygan Falls on Friday (TODAY) from 5-7 p.m., and on Saturday, at the church, from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
