Mother: Rebecca Jones
Born in Johnson County which became Hood County when it was formed about 10 years later.
Dr. Archibald Carmichael Died at Home Sunday
Many hearts were made sad at the passing of Dr. Archibald Carmichael at his home here December 22. A native of Hood County, Dr. Carmichael was born October 28, 1959, near Fall Creek. His father, Maj. A. Carmichael was one of the early pioneer settlers who played such an important part in the settling of the county. Dr. Carmichael carried on the pioneering spirit of his father, and gave a great deal to the development of the county. He received his medical education at Vanderbilt University and was active in the medical profession until a few years ago, when his health failed. He had been seriously ill for about ten days, and all his children except a son in California were at his bedside when the end came.
Funeral services were held this afternoon, December 23, at the Granbury Methodist Church, with Rev. I. E. Hightower, of Mineral Wells, Rev. B. L. McCord, of Granbury and Rev. Van Morrison of Handley, officiating. The body laid in state at the church from 1:30 until the services at 3 pm. Many friends gathered to pay their last tribute of respect to a fine man. The doctor had been a member of the Presbyterian Church and Masonic Lodge for many years. The Masons were in charge of the services at the grave.
Survivors are the widow; six sons, John, of Odell; Charles A., of Fort Worth; Paul, of Pampa; Joseph and J. G., of Granbury, and Pom, of Costa Mesa, California; two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Reidrich, of Oklahoma City, and Mrs. Pauline Baker, of Amarillo, and several grandchildren.
Interment was in the Granbury cemetery. The Estes Funeral Home in charge.
