With shocking suddenness, George B. M. Wisehaupt, prominent businessman of Lewistown, died at his home, Tuesday morning, after a half hour's illness caused by a stroke of paralysis. On the day before his death he worked and did not complain of any illness.

He was aged 69 years and 8 days.

Since 1903, when he came from Port Royal, he was the president of the Board of Directors and general manager of Lewistown Ice and Storage Company plant. From 1903, when Lewistown Trust Company was incorporated, until the presenttime, he was a director of that banking institution. He served one term, 1902-03, in the Pennsylvania State Legislature, as the representative from Juniata County. As a member of Lewistown Borough Council he represented the Second Ward, four years, and in 1927 and 1928 he was the president of the Council. He was a member of Lodge, No. 324, F and A. M., Mifflintown and in his earlier manhood he was a Bible class teacher and superintendent of the Lutheran Church Sunday School, Port Royal, where he was a member of the church until the time of his death.

George Brenton McClellan Wisehaupt, grain, coal and lumber dealer, Port Royal, was born in Spruce Hill Township, Juniata County, January 22, 1865, a son of John and Jane (Rice)Wisehaupt, both deceased. George remained at his farm home until he was 25 years old and then for two years engaged in the butchering business at Port Royal. He was a pupil of Centre public school, Spruce Hill Township, and a student at Airy View Academy, Port Royal.

In 1892 Mr. Wisehaupt embarked in the grain business, erecting a grain elevator costing $6,000. He rapidly enlarged his lines of business to include coal, lumber, railroad ties and farm machinery. He became a stockholder and secretary of the Port Royal Creamery and of the Port Royal Bank and at the time of his death was vice president of Lewistown Fair Association. For many years he was a stockholder of the Juniata County Fair Association.

In 1887 he was married to Miss Margaret Snyder of Mexico, Juniata County, whose death occurred on July 28, 1923. To the union were born 14 sons and daughters, for of whom died in infancy, the oldest of the deceased being two years old. The surviving four sons and six daughters are: D. Frank Wisehaupt, Port Royal; John S. Wisehaupt, manager of the Coleman House Hotel, Lewistown; M. Luther Wisehaupt and Mrs. Mary Jane Shunkwiler; Darwin M.Wisehaupt, Elmhurst, Long Island, N.Y.; Mrs. Robert (Charlotte)Garrett; Miss Gertrude Wisehaupt and Mrs. David (Pauline) Thomas, Jr.; Mrs. Joseph (Margaret) Garrett; Mrs. Chester R. (Lillian)Leach.

The two living sisters of Mr. Wisehaupt are Mrs. H. G. (Laura) Frazier, Harrisburg, and Mrs. Charles C. (Annie) Book, Port Royal. Fourteen grandchildren of Mr. Wisehaupt also survive him.

In his varied business pursuits he was a tireless worker and careful supervisor, always giving of his best talent and energy to every detail. In his public official careers he was courteous and honest and respected far above the average man for his sound judgment and useful and unerring advice. As the head of his large family he was kind and thoughtful and ever interested deeply in the welfare of his sons and daughters. Among his host of friends in every walk of life he will be much missed.
