SPENCER THOMAS NESBITT, 95, of Savanna died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center, Clinton, Iowa.

He was employed by Standard Oil for 49 years, first managing a Standard station on Main Street, Savanna, and then as owner/operator of Nesbitt's Standard Service, Savanna, retiring in 1982. Mr. Nesbitt was born May 10, 1906, in Savanna, the son of Thomas Elmer and Estella (Grayless) Nesbitt. He was a 1924 graduate of Savanna High School. He attended the University of Dubuque, where he played football and also attended the University of Illinois where he was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity.

He married Mary Elizabeth Pulley on April 30, 1936. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Savanna, Savanna Moose Lodge and a 66-year member of Savanna Lions Club. He was a past member of Savanna Park Board and Savanna Chamber of Commerce for 49 years. He was an avid sports fan and hunter.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael (Carol) Nesbitt of Savanna and Jonathan (Audrey) Nesbitt of Sterling; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three nephews. His was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters. The funeral is at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Prebyterian Church, Savanna, with the Rev. Doug Hall officiating. Burial is at Savanna Township Cemetery. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials have been established to First Presbyterian Church and Mercy Hospice.
