She was born Sept. 12, 1913, in Oberheimbach, Germany, to Friedrich and Rosine (Waldbeesser) Kammerer. She married Gustav Hagmann on Oct. 30, 1937, in Maienfels, Germany. He was listed as missing in action in 1945 in Russia.
Elsa immigrated to the United States in 1952. She later married Gustav Schmidgall on July 10, 1954, in Peoria. He preceded her in death on Sept. 6, 1977.
She also was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Surviving are one son, Roland G. (Linda) Hagmann of Pekin; two grandchildren, Rhonda (Kevin Sr.) Haley of Pekin and Sherrie (Shawn) Keller of North Pekin; and four great-grandchildren, Kevin Haley, Marissa Haley, Madissen Haley and Ryan Keller.
A homemaker on the family farm, Elsa enjoyed baking, cooking, quilting and gardening. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to all at Apostolic Christian Restmor for their care of Elsa.
She attended Morton Apostolic Christian Church.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 4, 2011, at Knapp-Johnson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Morton, with the Apostolic Christian ministers officiating. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, and from 9 to 9:45 a.m. Thursday, both at the funeral home. Burial will be in Morton Apostolic Christian Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Apostolic Christian Restmor or Apostolic Christian Timber Ridge, both in Morton.
