Arizona New Carrender Phelps, age 81, of Somerset, Ky., passed away Tuesday, August 5, 1997 at her home.

She was born in Delta, Ky. on August 5, 1916, the daughter of George Smiley and Lucinda Owens New. Both parents preceded her in death.

She first married Ben Carrender who preceded her in death. She then married Eubert Phelps, who also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her stepmother-Lonnie Hardwick; seven children- Kenneth Carrender, Harley Carrender,
Donnie E. Phelps, and Victoria Peters, all of Somerset, Ky.,
Lucian Carrender of Eubank, Ky,Earl Carrender of Monticello, Ky,and Cindy Lee Carrender Brown of
S. Amhurst, Ohio, two sisters- Bonnie Ridney of Monticello, Ky. and Ina Upchurch of Indiana, 33 grandchildren; and 36 great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are three children-George Hershel and Floyd Thomas Carrender and Kathy Robin Phelps; nine brothers-Johnny, Oather, Rufus, Dewey, Raymond, Luther, Robert, Hester, and George Jr; and three sisters-Ora Simpson, Ida and Lura New.

She was a member of the DenhamStreet Baptist Church and was a retired factory worker and restaurant employee as well as a homemaker.

Funeral services were held Thursday, August 7, 1997 at 2 p m. in the funeral home chapel with Brother J.S. New officiating, Burial was in the Lovell Cemetery in Delta, Ky.
