Gideon Bodah was the son of Joseph and Angeline Bodah who were French-Canadian. He spent his early youth on the farm in New York. At age 17 he went to Canada and became a sailor on the lakes. About 1867 he came to Necedah, WI, where he ran a single mill for Brandford & Co.

He married Frances H. Campbell on Oct. 24, 1871 in the M & E Church, Juneau, Wisconsin, by Rev. George W. Case.

Shortly afterward they moved to Wood County, settling in Nasonville. They were pioneers in Wood County, clearing and developing a fine farm. They raised an adopted daughter, Claudia Agatha (Johnson). In 1903, they sold the farm and moved to Marshfield.
