He was born northeast of Mahalasville on Voyles Rd near the intersection with Sedwick Rd. He was not born in 1887. This is an error on the tombstone. He was born either in 1893 or 1894. The earliest records on him give 1894 as his birth year. The 1900 Census gives his birth date as March 1894. Two records from 1902 also give the 1894 birth date.

The Indiana Children's Home Society, Indianapolis, IN, records from 1902 show that he had resided near Mahalasville but within Brown County and that he was at the home in Indianapolis from August to December, 1902. At that time he was age 8 and had light complexion, light hair, blue eyes, and weighed 60 lbs.

He grew up in Brown Co. and Morgan Co. and went to local schools. He was baptized by Henry G. Griffin on June 2, 1916 at the Bear Creek Church of Christ. He was a Charter Member of the church.

His WWI draft card shows that he was born March 12, 1894. He was a farmer. It gives his physical description as tall, slender, blue eyes and light brown hair.

His WWII draft card also shows 1894 as his birth year. He signed both cards and gave the information. It gives his height as 5'11" and weight as 156. He had blue eyes, black hair and dark complexion (white category). I don't know why there is a difference in hair color between the earlier records and this one. Also, he may have been taller than 5'11" at one point and gradually became slightly slumped over.

He stayed with his nephew, Franklin Merriman, and family in Zionsville from about March to June of 1965 or 1966. At rate, he blew out 72 candles on his cake.

He later resided at the nursing home in Morgantown.

He was known for doing wood whittling and beautiful handwriting.
