"DEATHS
Henry Witwer

Henry Witwer, a resident of Elkhart for the past thirty-six years, during which time he had been employed by the Lake Shore railway until compelled to retire on account of illness about a year ago, died at his residence 323 Hickory street last night at five minutes before 7 o'clock of kidney trouble.

Mr. Witwer was a well-known passenger conductor for about twelve years. He came to Elkhart in January, 1879, and entered the employ of the Lake Shore company as freight brakeman, In 1881 he was promoted to freight conductor and again promoted to passenger conductor in 1902, continuing in that capacity until his retirement, the last trip being made August 7, 1914.

The surviving members of the family are the widow, Mary Witwer, a son, Walter, Whiting, Ind.; a daughter, Mrs. Arthur Weyrick, residing six miles south of the city, and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held from the First Evangelical church, Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. E. W. Praetorius officiating assisted by Rev. John White of Trinity M. E. church. The services will be in charge of the Order if Railway Conductors of which he was a member.

Mr. Witwer's illness was caused by an injury to his spine sustained while in the employ of the railroad company. He had apparently recovered from the injury of the spine, but a post-mortem this morning indicated that the kidney trouble developed from the injury."
