Date of Burial: 18 Dec 1929

Ernest Henry Conrad Cohrs was the son of Ernst Cohrs (Sr) and Dora Caroline Wolffers*. He was the eldest of 14 children - 5 siblings and 8 half-siblings. We believe his mother Caroline died in 1858-1859 based on (1) she had her daughter Dorothea Christine on 2 Jan 1858, and (2) Ernst married Friedericke Schultz who had their son August at least by June 1860, which means she'd have to have been pregnant in October/November 1859 - August was 10 on 20 Jun 1870 on the passenger manifest, when they arrived in NY (New York, Passenger Lists, 1820-1957, Roll M237, 1820-1897, Roll 330, p.273 of 465, p.2, line 28, Arrival Date 20 Jun 1870, Birth Date abt 1860).
* Ernest's mother's name is uncertain as there are a few variations:
- A family history written by Ernest's son-in-law's nephew stated that Ernest's mother's name was Caroline Wolfers.
- Ernest's death certificate names his mother as Dora Wolvis.
- Brother Henry's death certificate (12 Jun 1850 - 6 Jul 1935, MN Certificate of Death 3059) identifies their mother as Caroline Wolfus. Henry's twin sister who dies the same year they were born was also named Caroline.
- Sister Maria's death record (21 Jul 1852 - 21 Nov 1874, Nicollet County Death Register) is not much help as hers lists her step-mother Friedericke as her mother.
- Sister Caroline's death certificate (11 Jun 1855 - 15 May 1932, WA Certificate of Death 214) is not much help either as her mother's name is listed as "Don't Know."
- Youngest sister Dorothea's death certificate (2 Jan 1858 - 11 Aug 1922, CA Certificate of Death 1159) gives her mother's name as Caroline Wolfuss.
All of the names are similar, and given the naming practices of the time, I would venture that her name was Dorothea Caroline Wolffers.
In searching for the German surnames Wolvis, Wolfus, Wolfuss, I found online listings of German surnames that seem similar: Wolf • Wölf • Wolf • Wolfer • Wolfers • Wolfes • Wolff • Wölff • Wolffers • Wolffs • Wolfs • Wulf • Wulff • Wulffs - it could be any one of these variations. However, in our family tree we are using Wolffers, as that seems to be the name many family members are familiar with.
