THE DEATH OF SAMUEL LUCAS
Samuel Lucas, a life long resident of Tippecanoe county, died at his home in Monroe Saturday evening, October 13, at 8 o'clock at the age of 90y 9m 29d. He had been in poor health for more than two years and his death was due to a complication of diseases and the infirmities of age. He was the son of Benjamin and Mary Lucas and was born in Fayette county, Pa., December 14, 1827. He moved to this county with his parents when quite a small boy and had lived in this community ever since. He was united in marriage to Abigail Hollenbeck November 1, 1849. To this union twelve children were born, of whom eight with the mother have passed to the great beyond. The surviving children are: Mrs Melissa Bell, of Warsaw, Mrs Martha Alburn and Ira and Albert Lucas of Monroe. He also leaves five grandchildren, one great-grandchild and one great-great-grandchild, besides a host of friends to mourn his loss. Mr Lucas united with the Methodist church when quite young and later became a member of the United Brethren church at Monroe, and had lived true to its teachings for the past thirty years. He was a good neighbor and was held in high esteem. The funeral services were conducted from the Monroe church Monday afternoon, October 13, at 2 o'clock, Rev. Fred Feighner, of Warsaw, and Rev. Cain officiating. Interment was made in the Monroe cemetery.
