Funeral Services to Be Held Today.
Baxter Springs, Kan., Dec. 1st
James E. Grubaugh, 73 yrs, a Baxter Springs contractor, died at his home, 238 East Twelfth street at 11:10 o'clock this morning of pneumonia following a short illness. He had been ill for two weeks but his condition became serious only a few days ago. He was born at Springfield, MO and spent his early life in Missouri. He was married in 1892 to Miss Elizabeth Jones of Marionville and they moved to Baxter Springs in 1917 and Mrs. Grubaugh died here last August. Mr. Grubaugh worked as a building contractor. He was a member of the Blue Lodge of Masons at Marionville, the Knights Templars organization at Aurora, MO, the Abou Ben Shrine at Springfield and the Eastern Star in Baxter Springs. He was a past master of the Blue Lodge and a past patron of the Eastern Star. He was a member of the First Methodist church of Baxter Springs. He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Raymond Cook of Baxter Springs; a brother, Sam Grubaugh of Marionville, and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Logan and Mrs. A. H. Compton of Marionville and Miss Ella Grubaugh of Springfield, and a granddaughter. Funeral services will bo held at First Methodist church, with the Rev. C. P. Mills, pastor, in charge. The body will be taken to Marionville for burial. Masonic rites will be conducted at the grave.

James Enzie Grubaugh was the second of eight children born to George Riley Grubaugh and Paulina Jane Wallace. His father was a minister. He married Mary Elizabeth "Lizzie" Jones on 15 Dec 1892 in Lawrence County, MO. He was raised in Christian County, MO but moved to Buck Prairie, Lawrence, MO just before 1880. He is listed in the 1910 census with Lizzie in Buck Prairie, but he then moved to Baxter Springs, Cherokee, KS where he spent the rest of his life. James and Lizzie had only one child, Fey Grubaugh Cook (1893-1983). She can also be found in Find-a-Grave, memorial #27298347.
