ATCHISON, Kan. — David Thornton Jr., 62, of Atchison, formerly of Troy, died Wednesday, April 6, 2011.

David was born on August 27, 1948 in Severance, Kan., to David and Martha (Ackerson) Thornton Sr. He worked for the State of Kansas Highway Department for 10 years.

David was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Alice Cheek.

Survivors include four daughters: Helen Leeper and Angie Thornton, both of Topeka, Kan.; Rebecca Thornton and Julie Thornton, both of Atchison, Kan.; son, John Paul Thornton of Victorville, Calif.; four grandchildren; two brothers, Roy Thornton of St. Joseph and Paul Thornton of Horton, Kan.; sister, Mary Ann Weir of Atchison, Kan.; nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Graveside services: 2 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at Courter Cemetery, northeast of Troy, Kan. Family will receive friends one hour prior to services, 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, at Harman Rohde Funeral Home. Friends may call after 12 noon Friday.
