Florence N. Winder; former tax collector
Florence N. Winder, 81, of Orchard Manor, Grove City, formerly of 2121 Butler Pike, Grove City, died at 1:50 a.m. Aug. 28, 1992, after a lengthy illness. She was born to William R. and Sybil Espy Nelson on Feb. 23, 1911, in Springfield Township, Mercer County. She married Howard R. Winder on May 3, 1930. He died Sept. 3, 1990. Mrs. Winder was a 66-year member of East Main Presbyterian Church, where she was active in the adult Bible class, East Main Quilters and Women's Association. She also was the Plain Grove Township tax collector for 20 years. She was a member of the General Hugh Mercer Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the American Colonists. She was treasurer of the Mount Pleasant Cemetery Association for several years. She is survived by three daughters, Kathryn W. Stouffer of Grove City, Mrs. Donald (Dorothy L.) Reed of Finley Township, Mercer County, and Mrs. Thomas (Elizabeth A.) Silan of Pittsburgh; one sister, Kathryn Nelson of Grove City; 12 grandchildren ; and 13 great-grandchildren In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Joseph Silan. Friends may call fro 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the Van Matre Funeral Home, 203 E. Pine St., Grove City. Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with the Rev. Alex C. Wilson, associate pastor of East Main Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be in South Plain Grove Cemetery.
