Husband of Julia Vanwinkle Pension Office: Elijah was a Private of 1st Lieut. Andrew M. Payne. Elijah got the measles on March 5th, 1865 at Chattanooga in the War and it affected his back. SERVICE -- Duty at Chattanooga, Tenn., and railroad guard duty in District of Georgia. Skirmish at McLemore's Cove February 1, 1865. Mustered out June 30, 1865 in Nashville, Tennessee.
