Mary Tenney dies Tuesday after illness
Mrs. Myrtle Mary Tenney, 89, matriarch of a large family and longtime church worker, died Tuesday, June 1, after a lingering illness.
She was born June 22, 1886, in San Saba, Tex., and moved to the state 73 years ago.
A homemaker, she was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for many years and was very active in her church.
A practical nurse and midwife, assisting others, she also gave devotedly of her time to her large family.
She had taught school for three years before her marriage in New Mexico. She came to Prescott June 24, 1925, from Sulphur Springs Valley near Willcox.
Survivors include: Three sons, William D. of Mesa, Sen. N. Boyd of Prescott and Lyman C. of Many Peaks, Australia; six daughters, Mrs. Opal Allen and Mrs. Nina Parry of Prescott, Mrs. Naydene Lane and Mrs. Pearl Romney of Flagstaff and Mrs. Dora Patterson and Mrs. Edythe Bennett of Cottonwood; also 56 grandchildren, 153 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, Nathan Orson Tenney, preceded her in death in 1953 and a son, N.S. Tenney, died in 1931.
Funeral services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 9, with burial to follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Visitation for friends will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Memory Chapel.
Family and relatives visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the LDS Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Nathan Orson and Myrtle (Wear) Tenney Genealogical Research at the LDS Church.
