proprietor of the Fountain Sample Rooms, is a native of Iowa, born March 5, 1865. When fifteen years of age he went to Brownsdale, Minnesota, where he grew to manhood, and where for a number of years he was engaged in farming. In 1887 he removed to Minneapolis, Minnesota, and embarked in the grocery business, but eighteen months later he came to Ritzville, Washington, and opened a place of business there. He resided in that town continuously until 1896, in which year he came to Spokane and engaged in his present business. He is a very enthusiastic fraternal man, being a member of the Uniform Rank, K. P., the B. P. O. E., No 228, of Spokane, the Improved Order of Red Men, No. 9, of which he is trustee, the Foresters of America, and the F. O. E. He was married in Ritzville, Washington, October 9, 1895, to Miss Sylvia V. Lee, a native of Ohio, and they are parents of one child, Mabel L.
