Espy native was retired BU employee
Miriam J. "Mickie " Knorr, 86, of Oman Road, Bloomsburg, died Saturday evening, March 26, 2011, at the Millville Health Care Center, where she had been a patient since October. She had been in failing health for the past eight months.
She was born Oct. 29, 1924, in Espy and was a daughter of the late Albert and Irene Trump Roan.
Mickie worked for Milco, Magee Carpet and for seven years the Bloomsburg University facilities maintenance, retiring in 1986.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Espy, Espy Women's Civic Club, Espy Fire Co. Auxiliary and WCTU. She was a Democratic Committee Woman.
Mickie enjoyed collecting, gardening and flowers, and she was a good cook. She was very people oriented and outgoing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Arden and John Roan, and two sisters, Martha Starr and Helen Fenstermacher.
She is survived by her husband, Paul R. Knorr, and they observed their 67th wedding anniversary on Dec. 25, 2010. She is also survived by three sons: Charles A. "Chick" Knorr and his wife, Elizabeth, of Orangeville; Gene A. Knorr, Bloomsburg; and Daniel D. Knorr, Berwick; a daughter, Deborah K. Rattray, and her husband, Mark, of Wilkes-Barre; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a brother, Carl Roan, and his wife, Anna, of Espy.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 1, 2011, at 11 a.m. from St. John's Lutheran Church, 2575 Old Berwick Road, Espy (Bloomsburg), with the Rev. Gordon Smith, her pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Briar Creek Union Cemetery, Briar Creek Township, Columbia County. Visitation for friends will be held Thursday evening, March 31, 2011, from 6-8 at the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home, 1024 Market St., Berwick. Contributions in her memory may be made to Alzheimer's Association, 3544 North Progress Ave., Suite 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
