Civil War veteran born in Purdy, McNairy County, TN. Living in Williamson County, TN when entered the war. Enlisted in the Confederate army April 12, 1862 at the age of 14 years 6 months at Franklin. First battle was in Murfreesboro, TN. Discharged 6/10/65 from Prison at Point Lookout, MD. His fathers Father Charles Cary Crump was born in Franklin TN was a doctor.

Mother Elizabeth Lavinia Wright daughter of Benjamin and Martha Vines Wright lived in Purdy, McNairy County, TN both from VA. Grandfather Benjamin Wright was surveyor help to lay off the state of Texas, was a Major in the Indian War, killed the chief at the battle of Horseshoe. We have the powder horn and beaded shoulder strap he took from the chief after killing him. He was a surveyor of McNairy County for many years. Was the father of John V. Wright M C. before the war. Also of Gen. Marcus J. Wright who lived in Washington City, D.C. I know nothing of my grandfather Crump he died before my birth. We owned 20 slaves family owned around 100 acres. Lived in a log house had 6 rooms 2 story. My mother died when I was very small. My father married the 2nd time. My stepmother was a great housekeeper, she owned a lot of slaves. They had 4 house servants cook, seamstress, house girl and nurse for the baby. Didn't attend school for a long time. Was a delicate child had Scrofula until about grown. After the war farmed, got a clerkship on a steam boat then went on the road as a shoe drummer for 38 years.
