DEATH OF SISTER HARDMAN- The many friends and acquaintances of Sister Alice Hardman, beloved wife of Isaac Hardman of the Fourth ward this city, will regret to learn of the death of that estimable woman, which occurred at the family residence, Tuesday, September 13, at 3:25 p.m.
Sister Hardman had been afflicted for a long time, but recently she rallied and it was hoped that her recovery would be permanent. But it was not so; a recurrence of her illness came on and at last she passed away surrounded by a devoted husband and several of her children.
Sister Hardman was a good worker in the Relief Society and in many respects made herself useful in the ward in which she lived.
Deceased was born in Radcliffe, England, September 6, 1834 and emigrated to Salt Lake in the year 1855, arriving here September 25.
She was a kind and loving wife and mother and leaves to mourn her loss 6 children and 21 grandchildren. She was the daughter of James** Radcliffe and Betty Whittaker, joined the church in England and has remained faithful to the end.
Funeral services will be held from the Fourth ward meeting house on Friday next, September 16th at 3 p.m. Friends wishing to view the remains may do so at the family residence, 675 south 2nd West Street between the hours of 1 and 2:30 the day of the funeral.
**It should be noted that Alice on 3 different occasions indicated her father was John and not James. It was this misprint in the newspaper that caused a couple of granddaughters to write a history on Alice and submit it to Daughters of Utah Pioneer's with incorrect information about her father's name and when Alice arrived in Utah. One of those granddaughters later realized with research that she was wrong. Also the birth-date in the obituary and on her tombstone is incorrect; according to Alice herself who said she was born on the 26th. Until an actual record can be found of Alice's birth, the 26th stands.
