Graveside services were held Tuesday, July 20, at Mountain View Cemetery in Mountain Home. Rev. Dr. Rick Brodie, pastor of First Baptist Church officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of Summers Funeral Homes, McMurtrey Chapel.
Clovis was born Jan. 28, 1925, in Camp Springs, Texas, the son of William Jackson and Angilee Strickland.
After graduation from high school in Rotan, Texas, Clovis joined the U.S. Army during World War II, serving with the 11th Armored Division from the Battle of the Bulge to the freeing of prisoners in the Mauthausen Concentration Camp in Austria.
After the war, Clovis completed undergraduate school at Howard Payne University, Brownwood, Texas, and then graduated from Golden Gate Baptist Seminary in Berkeley, Calif., with a Masters Degree in Divinity.
Clovis married Helen Junice Reed from Portales, N.M., on Oct. 11, 1952.
Over the next 52 years, he served as a pastor and missionary for churches in the Southern Baptist Convention at various locations in California, New Mexico and Colorado.
After retiring from the ministry and the post office, they moved to Mountain Home in 1995. He was a member of First Southern Baptist Church.
Clovis is survived by: his wife, Junice, of Mountain Home; son Randy Strickland and his wife, Louanne, of Crestline, Calif., son Gary Strickland and his wife, Cindy, of Mountain Home, and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four stepbrothers, four-stepsisters and a grandson.
