Mrs. Gearhart was born in Pike Township on December 26,1859, having celebrated her 70 birthday last Christmas Day. She was the only daughter of Benjamin F. and Elizabeth Williams Carr. In March 1878, she was united in marriage with Peter Gearhart. They started housekeeping on the farm at Centre where they have lived ever since and where Mrs. Gearhart made he house a virtual community center during the more active years of her life.
In June 16, 1928, Mr. and Mrs. Gearhart celebrated their golden wedding, the celebration having been postponed from the exact wedding day in March in order to permit its being outdoors. At that time they were honored by the hundreds of friends made during their married life. Mrs. Gearhart’s accomplishments as a wife, mother, and home maker.
Mrs. Gearhart’s sudden death has been a terrible shock to her loved one and most of all to her husband. Mr. Gearhart is only beginning to recover his former strength and vitality after having had his arm cut off in a fodder cutter last fall and the shock of his wife’s sudden death has been a trying blow indeed.
Besides her husband, Mrs. Gearhart is survived by four sons and four daughters, as follows: Mrs. Alice Crawford, Mrs. Pearl Wilson, and Mrs. Nora Leach, all of Hyde City; Mrs. Helen Boal of Kent, Indiana County; Walter C. of Robison, Illinois, Oden D. of Lawrence Township,, and Lloyd W. and Levi at home. Three brothers also survive; C. P. Carr and W S. Carr of Pike Township, and Richard Carr, who lives in eastern Pennsylvania.
Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the Gearhart home at Hyde City in charge of Rev. G. S. Patterson of the Centre M.E. Church. Interment at Centre.
