OBITUARY - Sutton Physican John "Cam" Eakle, 74, died Saturday, January 17, 1981, in St. Joseph Hospital,Buckhannon, after a long illness. He practiced medicine in Sutton, WV. for 45 years, was a graduate of WV.University and the Medical College of Va. He was a member of state and national societies, and Christ Church United Methodist in Sutton. A native of Braxton County, he was named Braxton Co. Citizen of the year in 1976. Surviving: wife, Velma Cutlip Eakle; sons, John C. of Canton, Ohio, James P. , of Sutton, WV., Charles B. of Folkston, Georgia; brother, Charles Boone of Huntington, WV; sisters, Mrs. Edith Jenson and Mrs. Elizabeth Strickler, both of Sutton; five grandaughters. Services were held Tuesday January 20, in the Christ Church United Methodist in Sutton, with Rev. Stephen Engle officiating. Burial in Sutton (Town Hill) Cemetery.
THE BRAXTON DEMOCRAT-CENTRAL -- A FRIEND IS GONE...With the death of Dr. J.C.Eakle, Braxton Countians lost a firend. Dr."Cam" Eakle as he was known to nearly everyone, gave much of his life to Braxton Co., and we owe him a debt of gratitude. Truly a family doctor, he was, for more than 40 years, available to the sick and distressed almost at their will. He gave freely of his knowledge of medicine, his patience, and his time to those in need. for all of this, we are grateful. With his passing, a vacancy exists in our lives and in our hearts. We are sincerely thankful for have known his kindness, and we mourn his passing, Dr. Cam was one of the last of his kind.
BRAXTON CENTRAL NEWSPAPER. EAKLE RETIRES AFTER 45 YEARS...After 45 years of practicing medicine in Sutton, WV, Dr. J. C. Eakle"Cam" Eakle is closing his office. The Sutton native, who graduated from WVU and the Medical College of VA. in Richmond returned to Braxton Co., WV. to enter practice as soon as he finished medical school. His forced retirement comes as a result of illness. Eakle and his wife Velma Cutlip Eakle are the parents of three sons; James P. of Sutton, Ben of Folkston, Georgia, and John of Canton, Ohio. Dr. and Mrs. Eakle issued the following statement concerning his retirement; " It is with deep regret that we have to anounce the permanent closing of our office due to illness. To all the patients we have treated through the years and friendships formed we want you to know they will always be remembered. And for your deep concern the past few weeks, your words of encourgement, your cards, your calls, your flowers, your help and just for being here, we appreciate everything more than words can say.
