Services for James Melvin Benefield, 64, of Heflin were held March 27 in Dryden Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Kenneth Howell and Cloyse Johnson officiating.

Burial followed in the Heflin Memorial Garden. Dryden Funeral Home was in charge of the services.

Mr. Benefield died May 25 at Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center.

He was born March 2, 1939. He was a native and lifelong resident of Cleburne County. He was the owner of Benefield Construction Company and was a former Cleburne County Commissioner.

Survivors include his wife, Nellie Maude Benefield of Heflin; his mother, Luetta Benefield of Heflin; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Dennis Green of Heflin and Brenda and Johnny Fordham of Albany, Ga.; three sisters, Retha Nolen, Mary Stone and Nellie Lambert of Heflin; a brother, Jerry Benefield of Munford; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Joe Bragg, Josh Green, Marc Green, Gene James, Jim Robertson, and Lynwood Williamson.
