She was born September 24,1934 in Rush County to the late Francis and Mable (Bane) Owens. Mary was a 1953 graduate of Rushville Consolidated High School.
She married John O. Schlechtweg on September 23, 1953 and he preceded her in death on May 13, 2018. She was a devoted mother and grandmother to her family. Mary was a lifetime member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
Mary is survived by her son Mike Schlechtweg (Donna Vaughn) of Laurel, a daughter-in-law Debbie Schlechtweg of Rushville, a brother-in-law Bill Schlechtweg (wife, Margaret) of Arkansas; 11 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.
Mary is also preceded in death by her son Chuck Schlechtweg; daughter Mary Ann Tillison and her sister Patricia Bowling.
Service will be held Wednesday October 24, 2018 at 10 A.M. in Master Mortuary with Father James Brockmeier presiding. Friends are welcome to visit the family on Tuesday evening from 4-8 PM in the mortuary. Burial will be held in the Hopewell Cemetery.
Memorial contributions maybe made to Miller's Mary Manor.
