Daniel Johnson was born in Sussex County, NJ 30 Jun 1824.

Daniel and his siblings Dennis, John, an unknown sister, and their parents Mr & Mrs Andrew Johnson moved together to Lackawaxen, PA between 1830 and 1840. Eventually, all 3 Johnson brothers would marry the daughters of their nextdoor neighbor in Lackawaxen, Pike County, Pennsylvania Cornelius Dubois.

As a group, all 3 Johnson brothers and their father-in-law Cornelius Dubois moved to Koshkonong, Wisconsin with their families in Sept 1852.

During the Civil War, both Daniel and Dennis Johnson registered for the Union Army on the same day, 1 July 1863, in Jefferson County, Wisconsin.

In 1870, Daniel Johnson and his wife Elvina Dubois Johnson and thier children moved to Woodson County, Kansas. His son Harvey began teaching public school as soon as they arrived in Woodson County, Kansas and this son would eventually open a pharmacy and music store in Yates Center, KS. The family also continued farming.
