From the "Peru Republican", Peru, In., Sept. 28, 1888:
"Jesse Elliott died Sept. 21, 1888. Funeral by Rev. B. Sawyer. He was buried in the Gilead cemetery Sept. 23, 1888.
Jesse Elliott, born Dec. 4, 1817, in Perquimens Co., North Carolina, emigrated to Wayne Co., Ind., in 1830. After living there a few years he removed to Preble Co., Ohio. Aug. 11, 1844, he was married to Hannah Davis, of Darke Co., Ohio. In 1849 they emigrated to Grant Co., Ind., living there until 1859 when he removed to the farm in this county where he died. He has been an active member in the M.E. Church for more than half a century tiling the position of class leader, steward, trustee, Sabbath school supt. and teacher.
Family worship was a great pleasure to him and his family, which was observed every day by Scripture reading and prayer. The deceased leaves a wife and six children to mourn the loss of the head of the family. He said, 'It would be pleasant to live a while yet with the family' but expressed no anxiety to remain. He said, 'every sensation tells me I am almost gone. But all is right-all is right'. This latter phrase he was often heard to say. He said to the family as they were seated aboout his bed a few days before his death: 'I have endeavored so to live that the family might learn to honor God, and see the reality in the religion of Christ'. Each of the family is a member of the M.E. Church."
