Stage actress. Laughlin appeared in eight Broadway productions including two productions of "The Wizard of Oz" in which she played Dorothy Gale. She was the first ever actress to play the role on stage; the show began in Chicago in 1902 before moving to New York.

Husband Dwight Monroe was a jewelry merchant who died in 1921. Their daughter was singer Lucy Monroe.

Took her own life by gas in her West End apartment; daughter Lucy reported that her mother had been nervous and ill for some time before her death.

She is interred in Woodlawn under her married name, Anna L. Monroe.
