Pythias was the name of an organization very popular at this time. Several of the Baccuses belonged to it, hence there were some of the Baccus offspring with the same name.

Seymour Pythias Baccus served in Co. I 45th Mtd. Inf. Union Army. Mustered in 2/4/1864 in Mt. Sterling, KY. Mustered out 2/14/1856 at Catlettsburg, KY. Pension #563274. His enlistment states he was 18 at the time of enlistment. Collier by trade before service. He was 5'5" tall with blue eyes, light hair and complexion. The 45th Inf. was under the command of Lewis M. Clark. Copies of 1880 census lists him as living in Metropolis at that time. He married Nancy Jane Dixon of Grand Rivers, KY ;6/9/1871 He died 10/1/1916 and is buried at Grand River, KY. "...His (Mathias) son, Seymore died about 1916 and is buried in Grand Rivers, KY, cemetery, in Land Between the Lakes park."
