Bessie Cooper Guthrie, 77, of Batesville died Friday, June 18, 2004, at her home.

Born Feb. 14, 1927, at Knob Creek, she was the daughter of Leslie Golden and Violet Juanita Green Cooper. She was a homemaker and a member of the Eastern Star and the Fellowship Baptist Church in Batesville.

Survivors include her husband, Johnny Guthrie; two sons, Freddie Woods of Grisham, Ore., and Wally Guthrie of Batesville; three daughters, Juanice Brewer, Nancy Gillihan and Linda Smith, all of Batesville; two brothers, Carl Cooper and Ben Cooper, both of Melbourne; a sister, Willa Sudrick of Melbourne; 16 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Wayne Byler and Ted Guthrie; and two brothers, Grover Cooper and Lonnie Cooper.

The funeral was at 2 p.m. Sunday at Howard Funeral Home Chapel in Melbourne with Richard Nuckolls and Frank Shell officiating. Burial was in Knob Creek Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Robert Cooper, Joe Cooper, Gary Graham, Chris Hill, Danny Taylor and David McCollum.

Honorary pallbearers were David Graham, Jim Cooper, Doyle Cooper and Ed Cooper.
