Sarah was the daughter of John and Nancy McCullough Jewell from Pennsylvania. She married Benjamin Franklin on 2 January 1853 in Wood County, and they had four children with only two living to adulthood including: Charlotte, George, and Ida. Lillie died when four years old and Eva died at eighteen. Sarah died from arterio-sclerosis at the age of 78 years 10 months and 23 days.
