Elmer was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Meppen, the Hardin Knights of Columbus 3rd Degree and Western Catholic Union.
At the time of his death, Elmer was 80 years, 2 months and 18 days old. He was survived by his wife, Esther; 1 daughter, JoAnn LaMarsh of Brussels, Illinois; 6 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Marie Hanneken of St. Charles, Missouri, and Angeline Siemer of Meppen, Illinois.
In addition to his parents, Elmer was preceded in death by 4 brothers; and 3 sisters.
Visitation was held on 17 Feb 1995 at Hanks-Gubser Funeral Home in Brussels. A prayer service took place at 5:30 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. A funeral Mass was conducted at 10 a.m. the following morning at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Meppen.
The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to St. Mary's Catholic School in Brussels or to the Brussels High School Athletic Program.
Elmer's wife, Esther, passed away in 2006 and was buried next to him.
