MACKINAW -- Guy McConkey, 89, of Mackinaw, died at 12:05 a.m. Monday at the Pekin Memorial Hospital, where he had been admitted early Sunday morning.
He had been a patient at the Tazewell County Nursing Home for approximately one year until he suffered a stroke Sunday and was taken to the hospital.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Haensel Funeral Home, Mackinaw. The Rev. Taylor Murphy, of the Mackinaw Christian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Mackinaw Cemetery. Visitation will be after 7 tonight at the funeral home.
He was born Sept. 14, 1874, in Stanford, the son of Daniel and Jane Walters McConkey. He married Zeta Edna Smith Apr. 15, 1903, in Iowa. She preceded him in death.
He is survived by two sons, L. W. of Mackinaw, and Howard T. McConkey of Peru; one sister, Mrs. Myra Ritchie of the Maple Grove Nursing Home in Bloomington; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Chester, and several brothers and sisters.
He was a member of the Mackinaw Christian Church and the Knights of Pythias of Peoria. He had lived in Mackinaw for 53 years previous to his illness. He was a retired railroad worker.
