Jerry Benes, 69, of Monroe Street, Sylvania, Ohio, formerly of New Castle, died at his home on May 31, 1989, following a short illness. He was born in Flint, Mich., on Sept. 14, 1919, to Mr. and Mrs. James Benes. His wife, the former Betty Eppinger, died in 1983. Mr. Benes was employed as director of purchasing and materials manager of Master Chemical Co. in Perrysburg, Ohio. He had previously been employed as industrial relations manager of the Mansfield, Ohio, General Motors plant where he worked for 35 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Maryann Sluhan of Toledo; a son, Larry Benes of Washington, D.C.; and two grandchildren. In addition to his wife, his parents preceded him in death. Calling hours are 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Reeb Funeral Home, 5712 N. Main St., Sylvania, Ohio. A service will be conducted at 1 p.m. tomorrow at the funeral home by the Rev. Dr. J. Calvin Winder. Interment will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Plain Grove Presbyterian Church Cemetery, South, Lawrence County. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
