Mrs. Rhoda Devereaux died at her home in South St. Albans, Monday morning, March 20th at 2 o'clock as a result of injuries received a few weeks since when she fell to the floor of her room breaking her arm as already been reported in the Journal. Mrs. Devereaux was the daughter of Elisha and Rhoda Parkhurst and was born in Palermo, May 28th, 1813. She was married to the late Dennis Devereaux August 4, 1833. Since her husband's death which occurred Nov. 9th, 1894, she has been tenderly cared for by her daughter, Demaris Palmer. Mrs. Devereaux experienced religion at an early age and has been closely allied to the Society of Advents since 1843. She was a woman of strong mental as well as physical qualities and retained them in a remarkable degree to the last day of her life. She was a very devoted mother to her children who are Mrs. Arminda Smith of Corinna, Mrs. Arvilla Weymouth of Gardiner, Mrs. Aurora Pingree, lately of Norway, Elbridge who died at the age of 16 years. Converse of Palatka, Florida. Mrs. Alwilda Smith of Portland, Mrs. Damaris Palmer of South St. Albans, Mrs. Velzora Call of Portland and Louise who died at the age of 17 years. The funeral will be held at the home Thursday at 2pm when she will be placed to rest beside her husband and two children at St. Albans village cemetery.
