Dr. James Bryan Whitfield (3 JUN 1842 - 19 JUN 1914) married at Demopolis June 7, 1882, his cousin Bessie Alice Whitfield, daughter of Bryan Watkins Whitfield and Mary Alice (Foscue); granddaughter of Gen. Nathan Bryan Whitfield of Gaineswood and Elizabeth Watkins (Whitfield) Whitfield.

Dr. James Bryan Whitfield (1842-1914) was the son of Gaines Gaius Whitfield (son of Needham Whitfield and Penelope Lane Bush) and his wife Mary Ann Whitfield (daughter of Bryan Whitfield who married his cousin Winifred Bryan).
